About

History of the Cape Cutter 19

The Cape Cutter 19 was developed by Nick & Lyndsay Voorhoeve. Their mission was to provide an outstanding classic yacht for sailing pleasure.

Their love of traditional boats developed in the Caribbean where they purchased a Shearwater schooner designed by the renowned South African naval architect Dudley Dix. Impressed by her good looks and sailing ability, Nick and Lyndsay commissioned him to design the Cape Cutter 19.

Their brief to Dix was to design a trailer sailer with a traditional workboat image, shallow draft and high performance. The boat should also be capable of fitting in a 20’ shipping container in order to service international markets.

A sailor himself and winner of the Cruising and Sailing World’s 2001 “Boat of the Year” award, Dix enjoys good sailing performance and has a flair for traditional lines.

There is now a large and growing fleet of these modern classics around the world. The Cape Cutter 19 Association is a lively and friendly owners association who hold regular events and organise an annual rally. Please see www.capecutter19association.org.
